Existing Stop Motion Animation Adverts
                                                                       Tic Tac 2012 Advert
This is the Tic Tac 2012 advert, it uses stop motion animation as its medium. I like this advert because it is extremely colourful and imaginative. It clearly advertises Tic Tacs and all the different varieties and flavours the company provides. The slogan works very well with the overall advert and supports it. The tic tacs create different images when placed together such as maracas and a hamster running in a hamster wheel. This is very effective becasue it is all made from Tic Tacs. I think we could use some of the techniques they have used in our stop motion advert because it is very colourful and gets straight to the point. I think it looks very effective to create different shapes from the tic tacs. This advert was created by two award winning directors from the company Ubik. The target market for Tic Tacs is 16 to 34 year olds and I think the advert is suitable for this type of audience. The advert is very intriguing and it is something that I would watch, so I think they have produced a good advert for their audience.

Sony Bravia Advert
This advert is advertiseing a TV, although the TV isn't used in the main section of the advert the slogan again helps support the message. The advert features lots of clay bunnies hopping around in different colours. It is very visually interesting and original because it uses stop motion animation to a large scale. You appreciate the amount of time and effort that must have gone into making the advert because it is of such a large acale. The ad features 200 animated rabbits and the location of filming was around New York. The target audience for Sony Bravia TV's is middle to upper class families from about 20 upwards. I think this particualr advert is aimed at families becasue it is very interesting for children as there are lots of colours and the animal used is quite childlike. It is a family orientated advert and also it may appeal to young adults because of its fresh and original style.

Nokia N8 Advert
This is quite a long advert however it is very effective because although they don't show the phone until the end, the whole thing is shot on the phone. This advert is unique because it is apparently the smallest stop motion animation in the world, this makes it original. We want our advert to be original and imaginative likewise to this. The music works very well with the animation because it reflects the small objects used to create it. I think if the advert was shorter it would have been more successful because it takes a long time for it to get to what its actually advertiseing. The Nokia N8 is aimed at 18 to 29 year olds because they want it to be viewed as new technology. The advert supports this because they are highlighting how good the camera is by shooting a stop motion animation on it. We want our advert to support its slogan, see the colour taste the joy by making it as colourful as possible. It is a good use of advertising because it shows how stop motion animation is easily shot on any device such as a mobile phone. Another advert similar to this is 'Gulp', also shot on a mobile phone however this advert is the biggest stop motion animation in the world.

Evian Advert

I like this advert because it is very original and I have never seen it before. This is why it has become a viral video on youtube and has had over 1 million views. It is seen through the video that it must have been fun shooting the advet this shines through and has a positive effect on the audience. The target audience for Evian is 18 to 44, the advert is appropriate for the audience because they use a range of different actors and actresses of different ages. Also because the advert is so imaginative it has become viral and therefore the brand is more well known and people are more likely to buy it.
This advert sprung off into an interactive music video because it was so popular which shows that stop motion animation can be put into different forms.

Cinema Advertising

Before the actual film is played in a cinema, adverts are played because it is a good way of advertising a product. I looked on the Digital Cinema Media website to see why adverts are screened before a film and why it is such an effective way of advertising.

This is a section from their website-

Appeal and motivation to purchase increased

  • It’s proven that cinema has a deep message out take because of high attention and improved ability to remember detail.
  • Cinema advertising has 8 times greater impact than tv.
This is valuble information because if we were actually going to screen our Smartie advert we would have to consider cinemas as well because it has a larger impact than if we were to put it on TV. This is an advert for coke using stop motion animation that was screened in cinemas-
It is a claymation that uses comedy as its genre. I think the advert is very imaginative and it advertises coke well becasue it has a comical effect. I think the purpose of the advert was to get people to buy coke whilst at the cinema. It is an ad that was intended for the Cinema because it uses the slogan, 'movies on the coke side of life', this wouldn't be suitable for the TV because the word 'movies' is included. The use of stop motion animation makes the advert more original and I think it would grab the audiences attention. I think the target audience for this advert would be, children possibly aged 5 to adults aged 30. I think this is an all round advert that would appeal to a large audience and therfore can be used in a number of different cinema screenings with different ratings.

Stop Motion in video games

I looked into stop motion animation in different formats and I found that some video games include stop motion animation. I looked at a website where I found a new stop motion aniamtion video game, click on the picture below to see the website I looked at-
4155535777 9dfa104246 o Amazing Stop motion video game Cletus Clay!!

The game is called Cletus Clay and it is a claymation completely filmed using stop motion animation. There is a short video on the website that I watched about the making of this video game and it taught me that stop motion can look more effective on a video game because the animated scenery and characters look original and can match a personal design rather than creating something digital. Also claymation can enhance the 3D expereince when played on the computer or TV.

Stop Motion Animation in Music Videos
Stop motion animation is used in many different types of media such as music videos, one music video created using stop motion animation is, In your Arms by Kinna Grannis. I think this music video is very interesting because it is original and you appreciate the amount of work that has to be done in order to complete it. The animation is very smooth and the lighting stays the same throughout the animation. This shows how stop motion can be used in many different formats and styles it can also be used in many different genres. This advert is made out of jelly beans and took an extremely long time to make and we would like to use a similar technique on our film. Although it won't be as professional because we don't have as much time and it was made by experienced people.
